About HER Africa

HER Africa is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to
supporting disadvantaged women and girls in Nigeria.

We believe that when women are given access to opportunity, education, and dignified work, entire families and communities are strengthened.

Children and families rely heavily on women. In our programs, many women support their parents, care for children, or provide the only stable income in their household. By investing in women and girls, we create long-term, generational change.

Our story

HER Africa began with a promise.

In 2004, our founder, Lookman, left Nigeria in search of opportunity, carrying with him a deep understanding of daily hardship and a commitment to give back to his community. Years later, while working with a charity organisation in Australia, Lookman saw firsthand how donated goods could create meaningful change when directed with purpose.

That idea stayed with him.

In 2019, alongside like-minded individuals equally moved by the realities facing women and families in Nigeria, HER Africa was formally established. What started as a shared desire to do more became a growing community focused on practical, respectful, and locally informed solutions.

Our Mission

To remove the barriers that limit Nigerian women and girls, enabling them to reach their full potential and support the families and communities who depend on them.

Our Vision

A future where Nigerian communities thrive through gender equality, economic opportunity, access to healthcare, education, and dignity.

What We Do

HER Africa focuses on initiatives that address real needs and create lasting impact:

Women’s Economic Empowerment

We provide skills training and employment opportunities that allow women to earn income, support their families, and build independence.

Education and Girls’ Support

We help girls stay in school by reducing barriers such as lack of learning materials and access to menstrual health products.

Health, Water, and Sanitation

We support access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and essential healthcare services, improving health, safety, and dignity for entire communities.

Menstrual Health and Period Poverty

Through sustainable menstrual health programs, we reduce stigma, improve education outcomes for girls, and support long-term solutions.

Supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to break cycles of poverty and create long-term change.

Our Approach

We work closely with local communities, listening first and acting with respect. Our projects are designed to be practical, sustainable, and community-led wherever possible.

HER Africa believes transparency, accountability, and dignity are not add-ons, they are the foundation of meaningful impact.

Why Women and Girls

When a woman gains skills, income, or education, the impact reaches far beyond the individual. Families eat better, children stay in school, and communities become more resilient.

HER AFRICA is a Public Benevolent institute and has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status with the Australian Tax Office (ATO). Donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

We are committed to transparency, accountability, and respectful partnerships with the communities we support.

Supporting Partners

We are grateful to the organisations and communities that have supported our work.
